Factors to consider when developing a breakout panel.

Q:Is an array of different boards cheaper?
A:In most cases no. In fact, the additional space required to create the support web will consume more board area than the individual items. Exception: Second side legend, premium drill sizes.
Q:Won't I save tooling costs by making an array?
A:E-PCB has dropped all tooling charges, billing is now exclusively based on the area you consume, custom drill diameters, routing complexity, and if required, the second side component legend.
Q:What about nesting small boards inside a cutout area of a larger board?
A:This is a case where you could gain. It depends on the complexity of the inside cutout you plan to nest your smaller design into.
Q:What size should my array be?
A:If you are hand assembling and hand soldering, size the array to hold only 1 copy of each item, or the ratio required to create one project set. The more routing you require will increase the complexity of the route program and consume more machine time and this adds additional cost to your order.
Q:How do I make an array?
A:Import your unique design items into a new project if your cad system will allow it. Offset each design with a minimum 0.300" keep-away ON ALL BOUNDRIES. See images below.
Q:My cad program runs out of memory and there are dropouts in the Gerber data now what?
A:This is a common problem. This is often an intentional limitation with demo software. The solution for this is often an upgrade or working with a devoted editor such as Pentalogix's Viewmate
or GraphiCode's GC-Prevue
Q:This is harder than I thought will you do it for me?
A:Absolutely! There will be CAD Time charges and they are in 1/2 hour increments with a 1/2 hour minimum. The rate is $75.00 for the first 30 minutes, and $60.00 for each 30 minutes there after.
